Fresh out of Duke University, Mike Posner is at the forefront of the college hip-hop movement. But don’t count him out as an Asher Roth or Sam Adams just yet: he may just be the most promising of the college bunch yet.

Okay, so Posner is more pop than hip-hop, although he has extensive production experience for various rappers, including underground legend One Be Lo. And best bud Big Sean is a frequent collaborator as well as a recent signee to Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music label. But I don’t think it would be exaggerating to say Posner may have actually invented a whole new branch of the genre.

By singing in a synthy-autotune voice, he’s a notch above T-Pain in crooning talents, as well as songwriting abilities. The serially-catchy “Cooler Than Me” showcases his danceable beats, as well as hip-hop affinity. Bump this while on the way to a summer party, and we guarantee you’ll walk in ready to go.
