With the Academy Awards just last Sunday, I would like to recognize Saving Face as the 2012 Academy Award Winner for Best Documentary (Short Subject). Saving Face discusses the prevalence of acid attacks on women in Pakistan.

The film follows London-based Pakistani plastic surgeon, Dr. Mohammad Jawad, as he journeys to Pakistan to perform reconstructive surgery on survivors of acid violence. Saving Face also broaches the subject of the under-reporting of acid violence due to cultural and structural inequalities towards women from Pakistani Muslim men.

And with March 8 being International Women’s Day, take a moment to think about all of the mothers, grandmothers, daughters, and sisters suffering all over the world. Check out Saving Face and think about what you can do to support women all over the world.
