In a lot of posts, I’ve mentioned the Lifestraw, a personal water filter, which gets rid of 99% of the contaminants in dirty water, making it clean and safe for drinking. But what is the Lifestraw and whom do we have to thank for this life-saving invention?

The Swiss-based Vestergaard Frandsen company invented Lifestraws for people living in developing countries and for distribution during humanitarian crisis. LifeStraw Family filters a maximum of 18,000 liters of water, providing clean drinking water for a family of five for up to three years. For example, LifeStraws were distributed in the 2010 Haiti earthquake, 2010 Pakistan floods, and 2011 Thailand floods.

What a Lifestraw does, essentially, is filter water solely with the power of suction. Water that is drawn up through the straw first passes through hollow fibers that filter water particles down to 0.2 microns across, using only physical filtration methods and no chemicals. Thanks to this technology, LifeStraw removes a minimum of 99.9% of waterborne protozoan parasites.

This amazing product has been praised internationally and has won several awards including the 2008 Saatchi & Saatchi Award for World Changing Ideas, the ‘INDEX: 2005’ International Design Award and “Best Invention of 2005″ by Time Magazine.

As you can see, this product is pretty amazing, which is why with each product you buy from Life Changing Apparel a Lifestraw is donated to a person in need. So do something amazing and purchase Life Changing Apparel.
